Norton Personal Firewall/Norton Internet Security will hide the HTTP_REFERER variable from websites, replacing it with a "HTTP________" variable. The value is replaced with dashes, e.g. "----:----------------------------------------".

The same thing can happen with other HTTP headers, like HTTP_USER_AGENT and HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING. These will be replaced by 'HTTP' followed by the appropriate number of '_' characters, i.e.
